The study, which involved 1,700 patients with erectile dysfunction, also suggested that the drug could increase the risk of erectile dysfunction in men taking nitrates or a nitric oxide-releasing compound, which relax muscles in the penis to allow more blood to flow. However, the study found that men taking nitrates were more likely to develop erectile dysfunction in the first six months of treatment, compared to those taking the drug.
Patel said Pfizer has been working with other companies to explore additional options for its Viagra portfolio, including potential marketing opportunities, new products and a collaboration with the U. drug manufacturer Eli Lilly and Company.
Patel said Pfizer’s Viagra is also the first oral medication to be made available in the U. S., and it will be the first to be approved by the FDA in the first six months of 2025.
